Last night, Amanda's long-awaited wish for a major haircut was granted. The whole family went down to Dayne's sister's house, and while there, I mentioned to Jill that I wanted Amanda's hair cut. She said no problem, and Amanda hopped up on a chair more than willingly to get the job started. Daddy tried very hard not to cry.
Amanda has wanted short hair for at least two years now. Each time we had to battle just to get her hair washed or brushed or fixed, we heard the same phrase, in the same whiny voice, "I want my haaaair cuuuuuuut!" Each time it was DH who convinced her to wait "just a few more months," hoping against hope that she'd forget that she hated her long hair, which she hated getting brushed every day.
See the ridiculously GIGANTIC grin on her face? See here? Right here, she's trying really hard not to be TOO happy in front of Dad, who's heart is racing and breaking simultaneously. (Gabe thought he needed to be in the picture too, because just a couple days ago, he found scissors somewhere and decided to give himself a haircut. I did NOT want him to have a buzz for the summer, but he thought it was cool!)
To give you an inkling of the significance of this haircut, you should know Dayne is totally GAGA about hair. Particularly, long, curly hair. Amanda was born with tons of dark hair, and ever since her first bath when her hair curled up like Little Orphan Annie's, her hair has been the object of his devoted affection. Here's a few of Dayne's favorite pictures, showcasing her gorgeous hair...

were flower girls for their cousin Blake's wedding. Here's Amanda, just barely 4 years old, with hair down to her waist.
Amanda has decided she wants to find somewhere to donate her hair, all TEN inches of it. Our daughter has always gotten praise from strangers about how beautiful her hair was. And it still is, just shorter. If she doesn't want it, I'm sure there are lots of girls who are less fortunate who would love to feel as admired as I'm sure Amanda has. I'm proud of Amanda for her decision, and I hope she is as thoughtful throughout her life. She is beautiful inside and out!

A huge THANK YOU to Lynell, who took the pictures that look good!

Wow! Love the haircut! That is so wonderful that she even thought about donating her hair. Someone will be very grateful to her for that.
Love, love , love that picture of Amanda and Bryce! It is stunning!
Dear Tricia,
Wow, both Erin and Amanda cut their long hair. Well, I love long hair.. (sadly, my hair is too thick to wear it long...I look like I have a mop on my head...actually it still looks like a mop but a short mop is better than a long one)...but I have to agree that the short look is darling on Amanda (and Erin). However, I understand why Dayne is sad. I don't think any child had prettier long hair than your Amanda.
By the way, if you have time check out my blog.
http://www.grammysnews.blogspot.comI'm trying to recruit company. Maybe my last blog will tempt you.
Have a good day. Doesn't Dayne have a birthday coming up soon? Wish him happy birthday from us.
Also, we are coming up in a couple of weeks. Maybe we will get to see Amanda's hair cut in person...I hope so. Love, Grammy Lura

Take care....
Can I have her hair for a wig? Her hair is gorgeous!! She looks so grown up now!
I only cut 6 inches, that is NO comparison despite what my sweet mother says... smile
Amanda! You look so cute with short hair. But hey, you would look cute with no hair. Ü
I love, love, love the new look. I know you have wanted it cut for a long time. Looks like you made a great choice.
Thanks for sharing all the cute pictures. I can't believe how times flies.
We should do a photo shoot with Amanda's new haircut. That would be fun!
